Use clients’ natural creativity to help them discover potential career paths that are more fitting to
who they are and what they want from life.  Hear about the process, see some of the work
clients have completed and are working on, and what types of experiential activities can be
done to help clients “create and design” their desired career and subsequently the life they
want to live.

Utilizing an “Appreciative” Career Development Interview as Part of a Strength-Based Career
Development Process

The language we use may predict the direction of career development interactions.  By focusing
on our word choices, it may be possible to move from a problem-centered approach to a
strength-based approach.  The “Appreciative” interview is the lead component in a strength
based approach to career development using Appreciative Inquiry.

Fun Informal Assessments to Use in Team Building
Learn about some of the informal assessment tools that Career Coaches, Counselors, and
Advisors at our Technical College employ when working with students and prospective
students.  The wide variety of interview strategies, inventories, games, and other activities
assist individuals in their career path by increasing self-awareness in relation to career
interests, skills, and aptitude, and work values.

Your Motivation for Working
Understand how work values are linked to daily work tasks in order to assist students with the
conceptualization of their work personality.  It “shifts” the framework of their thinking from job

used within the context of appreciative inquiry and the career clusters model.
